Free standard diagnostic assessment
Know the fault and the cost before you decide.
An engineer examines the device and establishes whether recovery is viable, what work is required and what it is likely to cost. You choose whether to continue only after receiving the diagnosis and a written price or agreed range.
- £0
- Standard diagnostic fee
- Before work
- Price or range agreed
- £0
- Recovery fee if no data is recovered
A previously opened or physically worked-on device requires a £100 enhanced assessment. See the exception and payment terms.
Recovery priority
How fast do you need your data back?
The engineering process and level of care stay the same. A faster service moves your case forward in the lab queue.
Turnaround starts when the device reaches our laboratory.
- 01
Standard
5–10 working days
Targets recovery and return within 5–10 working days of the device reaching our lab, subject to diagnosis, parts and media condition.
Recovery price Included - 02
Express
3–5 working days
Prioritises the case and targets 3–5 working days from arrival, subject to diagnosis, parts, media condition and data volume.

Emergency
24 hours
Gives the case highest queue priority and targets 24 hours from arrival when the fault, parts, media condition and data volume allow it.

The lab
One bench, from diagnosis to return
Drives are opened in a dedicated cleanroom environment rather than on a desk, imaged before anything is written to them, and worked on in the same building from arrival to return.
We assess the fault, media condition, encryption and previous attempts before explaining what is realistically recoverable. Our case studies publish both positive and negative outcomes, and where useful data cannot be recovered there is no recovery fee.

Frequently asked questions
Before you send a device
Straight answers about diagnosis, cost, turnaround and what to do before a recoverable fault gets worse.
01 Is the standard diagnosis really free?
Yes. Standard diagnosis is free. If a device has previously been opened or physically worked on, we explain the £100 enhanced assessment fee before accepting it for that work.
02 Do I pay if no useful data can be recovered?
No recovery fee is charged when we cannot recover useful data. Any separately agreed donor part, return drive, specialist licence or enhanced assessment cost is explained before it is incurred.
03 How much does data recovery cost?
The price depends on the fault, time required, donor parts, specialist licences and return media. We diagnose the device first and provide a written price or agreed range before recovery begins.
04 How long does data recovery take?
Standard service is usually 5–10 working days from arrival at the lab. Express is 3–5 working days, and a 24-hour emergency tier is available for suitable urgent cases.
05 What should I do if the drive is clicking or the device is wet?
Switch it off and stop testing it. Repeated power cycles, recovery software and charging a wet device can cause additional damage. Contact the lab before powering it again.
06 How should I send the device, and how is my data protected?
Use tracked delivery and a rigid box with cushioning on every side. Devices and recovery media are stored securely while they are with us, and a working copy is normally deleted within 48 hours after return or sooner on request.
