RAID & server

My server is really old. Are you still able to help?

Possibly. Age alone does not decide whether server data can be recovered. The condition of each drive, RAID layout, controller or enclosure configuration, file system and encryption are more important. Photograph the drive bays and error messages, record the server model, then contact us before rebuilding or removing anything.

Old hardware is not automatically unrecoverable

Legacy interfaces, proprietary controllers and obsolete file systems can make a case slower, but they do not by themselves mean the data is lost. The first task is to preserve the original drive order and understand what changed before the server stopped working.

Avoid repeated restarts and do not let the controller initialise or rebuild the array. Those actions can write new metadata or place more stress on a marginal drive.

Send the configuration before the hardware

Photograph the full system, drive labels, bay order and any controller display. Note the server, controller and enclosure model where possible. With that information we can advise whether to send the complete chassis, every member drive, or another specific part of the system.
